Description:Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Educational Service District (COPESD) is located in the northern tip of the lower peninsula, covering 2100 square miles. COPESD serves approximately 9,400 students in 10 public school districts, 1 public school academy, and 8 non-public schools in Cheboygan, Otsego, Presque Isle, and parts of Emmet, Charlevoix, Antrim, Montmorency, Oscoda, and Crawford counties. COPESD provides special education diagnostic services, specialized classroom programs for moderate and severe cognitive impairments, and early childhood special education classroom in conjunction with Head Start, and consultants for vision, orientation and moblity, hearing, and autism. Through an ASAP-PIE grant, COPESD started the early childhood TAPESTRY program that works in cooperation with special education, Early-On and local agencies to support young children and their familes. Internet and technology services are provided collabratively to local districts in COPESD and Charlevoix-Emmet ISD. Professional Development (PD) is provided for local districts through the ESD as determined through the General Education PD committee and annual special education PD survey.
